IN YOUR HANDS
A reminder that our world is still one that can be touched and affected.
When I consume content and news on my phone, I hold the entire world in my hands. An endless insight into all our lives that drags me into a maelstrom of inspiration and tragedy. Every experience I could imagine is just a keystroke away. After a while, the phone becomes too hot and heavy to hold, but when I put it away I am left being held by the world instead. And though the source of the news may be gone, the reality remains, far more vast and terrible than anything I could contain between my palms.
To ground myself, I like to return to what I can hold: a piece of fruit, a palmful of water, a burning candle. The collection explores this grounding, diving into the details of the physical sensations of crushing, flowing, and warming - instead of the cerebral dive into consumption. It’s a reminder that our world is still one can be touched and affected.
This collection is dedicated to William Gomez, and the faith that he will be back with us soon.
